Privacy Policy
Effective October 30, 2026
This policy covers stackchief.com and StackChief's accounts on Facebook, Instagram, Threads and X. StackChief is published by StackChief LLC. Questions go to support@stackchief.com.
Reading the site
You can read everything without an account. When you visit, we record a few events in our own log (for example a page view, a click on a product link, or a newsletter sign-up) with the page, the campaign tags in the link you followed, the referring site's domain and whether you're on a phone-sized screen or a larger one. That log does not store your IP address, your browser's user agent or a cookie ID. Our servers also keep standard request logs for running and securing the site.
We use Google Analytics to understand which pages are read. It sets cookies and receives your IP address and browser details under Google's policies. We don't send it your name or email.
Ads
Articles and article lists can show ads from Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies to show ads based on your visits to this and other sites. You can turn off personalized ads in Google's ad settings. While ads are on, readers in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland see Google's consent message, and ads and analytics stay off until they choose.
Signing in
You can sign in with Google or X. We receive your name, email address and profile photo from that service and store them with your username, any bio you add, and when you joined. We don't receive or store a password. Your username, photo, bio and posts appear on your public profile. Your email address is never shown publicly.
If you publish a post, it's public, and images you upload with it are stored on public URLs.
Newsletter
If you subscribe, we store your email address, where on the site you subscribed and when. We use it only to send the StackChief newsletter. To unsubscribe, email support@stackchief.com and we'll remove you.
Purchases
Payments go through Stripe Checkout, on Stripe's own page. We never see or store your card details. To deliver what you bought, we look up the purchase in Stripe, including your email address, and your email address is printed in the downloaded PDF as a license watermark. Stripe sends your receipt and handles payment data under Stripe's privacy policy.
Cookies and storage on your device
We use cookies to keep you signed in and to protect sign-in (session and CSRF cookies), to complete a purchase (for 15 minutes) and to remember access to a product you bought (for up to 30 days). Your browser's local storage keeps your light or dark mode, unsaved drafts, whether you dismissed a banner, which version of a page layout you were shown and which ad-test group you're in. Outside Europe, session storage keeps the campaign tags of the link that brought you here, so a later purchase can be attributed to it. Google Analytics and AdSense set their own cookies, as described above.
Social media
We publish our own posts to our pages and accounts on Facebook, Instagram, Threads and X through those platforms' official APIs, and read the statistics they report for our own posts and accounts, such as views, reach, clicks and follower counts. We use these totals to decide what to publish next. We don't collect personal information about the people who follow, view or interact with our accounts, and we don't sell or share data from these platforms.
Who processes your data
The site runs on Amazon Web Services in the United States, which hosts our servers, database and image storage. Google (Analytics, AdSense and Google sign-in), X (X sign-in) and Stripe (payments) receive the data described above. We don't sell your personal information.
How long we keep it
Account and newsletter data stays until you ask us to delete it. Purchase records stay in Stripe for as long as the law requires for accounting. The event log keeps no personal identifiers.
Deleting your data
To see, correct or delete what we hold about you, email support@stackchief.com from the address you used and tell us what you want removed: your account, your posts, your newsletter subscription, or all of it. We delete it within 30 days and confirm by email. This also covers any information related to StackChief's Facebook, Instagram or Threads accounts.
Children
StackChief is written for working software engineers and isn't directed to children under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update it here and change the effective date at the top.
